AJGA members compete on U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team

The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team will compete against the European team September 26-27 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minnesota. The 2016 U.S. team consists of an all-AJGA member roster combining 28 AJGA victories, 10 Rolex Junior All-Americans, 10 members of the Wyndham Cup East and West squads and two members of the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Class of 2017

No. 2 in Polo Golf Rankings, Alyaa Abdulghany of Newport Beach, California, is a two-time Rolex Junior All-American. Abdulghany has 11 top-10 finishes and one victory at the 2016 AJGA Junior at Carlton Oaks. She is a two-time member of the Wyndham Cup West Team with a 4-2-2 record. Abdulghany is a USC commit.

Currently No. 14 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Wilson Furr of Jackson, Mississippi, is a two-time Rolex Junior All-American. Furr has eight top-10 AJGA finishes in his career. Furr recorded a 4-0-0 record as a member of the 2016 Wyndham Cup East Team and is a University of Alabama verbal commit.

Currently No. 5 in the Polo Golf Rankings Emilia Migliaccio of Cary, North Carolina, is two-time Rolex Junior All-American and four-time AJGA champion. The Wake Forest University commit has placed in the top 10 in all of her 2016 AJGA events. As a two-time member of the Wyndham Cup East Team she has a match-play record of 4-2-2.

Kaitlyn Papp of Austin, Texas, is currently No. 7 in the Polo Golf Rankings. The Texas verbal commit is a three-time Rolex Junior All-American and three-time Wyndham Cup West Team. Papp has two AJGA victories and was a member of the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Davis Shore of Knoxville, Tennessee, is No. 2 in the Polo Golf Rankings after winning his third AJGA event, the 2016 Rolex Tournament of Champions. Shore has 12 AJGA top-10 finishes in his career. As a two-time member of the Wyndham Cup East Team, he has an overall record of 5-3-0. Joining Furr, he is also a University of Alabama verbal commit.

Two-time Rolex Junior All-American Norman Xiong of Canyon Lake, California, is currently ranked No. 3 in the Polo Golf Rankings. Xiong has five AJGA victories including the 2016 Thunderbird International Junior. He also won the 2016 Junior PGA Championship and is a two-time Wyndham Cup West Team member with a 4-4-0 record. Xiong is verbally committed to the University of Oregon.

Class of 2018

Hailee Cooper of Montgomery, Texas, is currently ranked No. 15 in the Polo Golf Rankings and is a three-time Rolex Junior All-American and is a six-time AJGA champion. She was a member of the winning Wyndham Cup West Team and was also a member of the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

No. 1 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Noah Goodwin of Corinth, Texas, was runner-up in the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur and has placed in the top-five in all of his 2016 AJGA events including a win at the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior at Horseshoe Bay. Goodwin was a member of the West Team in the 2016 Wyndham Cup, tallying a 4-0-0 record.

Eugene Hong of Sanford, Florida, is currently No. 4 in the Polo Golf Rankings. Hong has four AJGA victories including a win at the 2016 Haas Family Invitational. Hong was a first-team Rolex Junior All-American in 2015 and is a University of Florida verbal commit.

No. 6 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, North Carolina is a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and is verbally committed to Duke University. Kim has two AJGA victories including a win at the 2016 Rolex Girls Junior Championship.

Patrick Welch of Providence, Rhode Island, has competed in three AJGA events, earning two top-10 finishes. Welch is currently No. 31 in Polo Golf Rankings and finished second in the 2016 Junior PGA Championship.

Class of 2020

At age 13, Lucy Li of Redwood Shores, California, is the youngest member of the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team. Currently No. 13 in Polo Golf Rankings, Li won the 2016 Junior PGA Championship which earned her an automatic spot on the Junior Ryder Cup roster.

 

European Junior Ryder Cup Team

Seven of the twelve members of the European Junior Ryder Cup Team are AJGA members. Below, find their junior accomplishments and top finishes.

Class of 2017
Marcus Svensson
of Halmstad, Sweden, finished T16 at the 2015 The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented TaylorMade-adidas Golf.
Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen of Helsingør, Denmark, finished T31 at the 2015 The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented TaylorMade-adidas Golf. He placed fifth in the 2016 French International Amateur (Murat Cup).

Kristoffer Reitan of Oslo, Norway, is currently No. 48 in the Polo Golf Rankings. He has played in four AJGA events and finished T9 at the 2015 The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

Adrien Pendaries of Neuilly sur Seine, France finished eighth at the 2015 The Junior PLAYERS Championship presented TaylorMade-adidas Golf. He won the 2015 Irish Boys Amateur Open Championship and is No. 120 in Polo Golf Rankings.

Class of 2018

Pauline Roussin-Bouchard of Carqueiranne, France, finished T17 at the 2015 Polo Golf Junior Championship. She also won the 2016 Spanish Ladies’ International Stroke Play in Spain.

Frida Kinhult of Fiskebäckskil, Sweden, competed in the 2015 Polo Golf Junior Classic and finished T17.

Beatrice Wallin of Olofstorp, Sweden, finished 25th at the 2016 Thunderbird International Junior and T39 at the 2015 Polo Golf Junior Classic. Wallin, won the 2016 ANNIKA Invitational Europe and was a captain’s pick for the European team.
