LPGA Tour

Kia Classic

Austin Ernst finished T2 at the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, California, to claim her third top-10 finish of the season. Ernst had a strong showing all week, carding 70-68-69-67 to finish with a 14-under-par 274. A two-time honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American, Ernst amassed 11 top-10 finishes during her AJGA career, including victories at the 2007 Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic and the 2007 Rome Junior Classic presented by State Mutual Insurance Company. She won on the LPGA Tour at the 2014 Portland Classic.

ANA Inspiration

Current AJGA player Lucy Li of Redwood Shores, California, earned the final spot in the field of the LPGA's ANA Inspiration after her victory at the ANA Junior Inspiration on at Mission Hills Country Club. Li finished with a 3-under-par 213 and an exemption into LPGA's first major. She will be competing on the same Dinah Shore Tournament Course that earned her the spot will be joined by several other fellow amateurs, including current AJGA players Eun-Jeong Seong and Paphangkorn Tavatanakit. AJGA alumnae Katelyn DambaughAndrea Lee and Hannah O'Sullivan will also compete as amateurs.

 

 

 

PGA TOUR

Puerto Rico Open

D.A. Points picked up his third career PGA TOUR victory at the Puerto Rico Open after finishing the week with a final round 6-under-par 66. Points, who regained TOUR status through the 2016 Web.com Tour Finals, earned a 2-year exemption and a spot at THE PLAYERS Championship in May and the PGA Championship in August with his win. During his AJGA career, Points competed in five events, including the Rolex Tournament of Champions in 1993 and 1994. Tied for second behind Points were fellow AJGA alumni Bryson DeChambeau and Bill Lunde who finished the week at 18-under-par 270.

Current AJGA member Chris Nido of Miami, Florida, made his PGA TOUR debut after receiving an expemtion into the field. A University of Florida commit, Nido has represented Puerto Rico in several past international events. The Coco Beach Golf & Country Club course was nothing new for Nido, who competed in the Puerto Rico Junior Open presented by EaglesDream Golf Academy AJGA event in 2015 and 2016.

World Golf Championships– Dell Technologies Match Play

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson won for the third time this season after defeating John Rahm, 2&1, on the final hole of the 2017 World Golf Championships - Dell Technologies Match Play. Johnson became the first player to complete the World Golf Championship career grand slam (WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, WGC-HSBC Champions, WGC-Mexico Championship, WGC-Match Play) and the first player to win three consecutive tournaments since 2014. The AJGA alumnus made it through the week without trailing in any of his matches, and as a result brought home his 5th WGC win and his 15th victory on TOUR. His WGC win-count is second only to fellow AJGA alumnus Tiger Woods.
