PGA TOUR

Shell Houston Open

Macon, Georgia, native Russell Henley tallied 10 birdies during the final round of the Shell Houston Open to take a three-stroke lead and claim the third PGA TOUR victory of his career. Henley started the day four shots off the lead but surged on the back nine to finish with a 7-under-par 65 to card his 13th consecutive round under par at the Golf Club of Houston. Winning is nothing new for the Class of 2007 AJGA alumnus, who became only the second amateur in history to win on the Web.com Tour in 2011 with a win at the Stadion Classic at the University of Georgia. Henley won twice more on the Web.com Tour before earning his TOUR card in the fall of 2012. Since joining the TOUR, he's won the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2013 and the Honda Classic in 2014. His victory in Houston moved him to 11th in the FedExCup standings and earned him the final spot in the 2017 Masters.

ANA Inspiration

Lexi Thompson finished second at the ANA Inspiration, in a field that included 10 past Rolex Junior Players of the Year. After an emotional situation regarding a ruling from the prior day's play, Thompson battled back during the final round to force a sudden-death playoff with world No. 3 So Yeon Ryu. During her time in the AJGA, the Coral Springs, Florida, native amassed three AJGA victories and was named a first-team Rolex Junior All-American in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She was also a two-time Wyndham Cup East Team member and went 3-0-0 as a member of the 2009 PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team. This was Thompson's third consecutive top-10 finish at Mission Hills since her ANA Inspiration win in 2014.

Six AJGA players and alumnae played alongside Thompson. Current player Eun Jeong Seong of Yongin-Si, South Korea, had a strong first-round presence, becoming the first amateur to ever record an ace at the ANA Inspiration. Her 4-under-par round of 68 put her in a tie for second moving into the second round. Fourteen-year-old Lucy Li was the only amateur to make the cut during the tournament. Li earned exemption after winning the ANA Junior Inspiration on March 26.
