TOUR Highlights: Major champion

PGA TOUR

Masters

2017 tournament host Sergio Garcia claimed golf's coveted green jacket, after defeating fellow tournament host Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff. Garcia posted a 3-under-par 69 in the second round to join Thomas Pieters and AJGA alumni Charley Hoffman and Rickie Fowler in a tie for first going into the weekend. Garcia maintained his lead into the final round, where he began the day tied with Rose at 6-under-par. Paired in the final tee time of the day, the two went back-and-forth all day, amassing a combined eight birdies and one eagle in the final round.

With nine wins on the PGA TOUR, Garcia earned his first Major victory and became the third Spaniard to win the Masters. The title also came with a jump in the FedEx Cup Standings, moving him from No. 70 to No. 12. Garcia will host the second annual Sergio Garcia Foundation Junior Championship, May 5-7.

The sole ace during the weekend occurred in the final round when AJGA alumnus Matt Kuchar holed out on the par 3 No. 16. The hole-in-one was only the 18th in Masters history and was part of a back-nine run for Kuchar, who even-par when he made the turn. Kuchar played with the AJGA from 1993-1996 and earned five top-three finishes, including the 1994 Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior where he finished runner-up.
