Justin Thomas hosts second AJGA tournament

PGA TOUR professional Justin Thomas will host his second annual tournament this weekend at Harmony Landing Country Club in Goshen, Kentucky. The tournament will feature 72 players from 12 states and four countries.

Thomas’ home course was originally designed by George Davis and dates back to 1929. Thomas’ father, Mike Thomas, serves as PGA Master Golf Professional at the course and has been instrumental in the planning and organization of the tournament.

In 2016, Nicolas Osterburg of Indianapolis, Indiana, carded rounds of 75-69-73 to get into a playoff with Michael Sass of Louisville, Kentucky. Osterburg went on to win the title after a five-hole playoff. In the Girls Division, Allyson Geer of Brighton, Michigan, lead each round of the tournament with scores of 72-73-73. She finished six strokes ahead of Addie Baggarly of Jonesburough, Tennessee, and Julia Dean, also of Brighton, Michigan. Osterburg has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Cincinnati and Geer is currently at Michigan State University as an early enrollee. She will be playing on the golf team in the Fall.

After an impressive junior career with the AJGA from 2006-10, Thomas hosted his first AJGA tournament during his birthday in the spring of 2016. Thomas competed in 30 tournaments across five years with the AJGA, notching three victories, including back-to-back wins at the 2008 and 2009 Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior. Thomas was a two-time Rolex Junior All-American before attending the University of Alabama and going on to win four times on the PGA TOUR.

Several new sponsors are joining the event in 2017, including: Strategic Communications and Phocus. Proceeds from the tournament will go back to charity through the AJGA Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant and also to the local First Tee of Louisville.
