TOUR Highlights: June 19

PGA TOUR

Brooks Koepka was victorious at the U.S. Open at Erin Hills in Hartford, Wisconsin. The former Seminole carded a 16-under-par 272 to make his way to his first TOUR victory of 2017, tying the scoring record for the U.S. Open. The final round would match the 27-year-old’s best round of the tournament, sinking six birdies on his way to a 5-under-par 67.

Koepka competed with the AJGA from 2005-07. This first national tournament win came at the 2005 Ashworth Junior at Highland Oaks, where he recorded a 2-under-par 142. The 2007 Rolex Junior All-American collected nine top 20 finishes in his 13 tournaments with the AJGA.

LPGA Tour

Canadian Brooke Henderson won the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give on June 18. The 19-year-old recorded a 21-under-par 263 to take the title by two strokes. Henderson amassed 18 birdies and an eagle en route to the title. The No. 15 golfer in the Rolex Rankings has also collected 19 Top-10 finishes, including four career victories.

During her four years with the AJGA, Henderson won two titles and appeared in the top 20 on 12 occasions. At the age of 14, the standout qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur and two years later, qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open. After seven amateur victories in 2014, Henderson opted to skip a collegiate career and turn professional out of high school.

Symetra Tour

Jessica Welch finished T3 at the Decatur-Forsyth Classic in Decatur, Illinois, on June 18. Welch recorded a 10-under-par 206 after shooting under par in all three rounds. Her six birdies in the final round helped her toward her third-place finish.

The 23-year-old competed in the AJGA in 2009 and 2010. Welch’s first victory came at her first AJGA event, the 2009 Preseason Junior at Château Élan, where she recorded a 1-over-par 145. The Georgia native finished in the top 20 in 75 percent of her events while with the AJGA.

Aaron Wise took the title at the Air Capital Classic Supporting Wichita Youth in Wichita, Kansas. Wise recorded a 21-under-par 259 at the four-round event. Two eagles and 24 birdies during the event helped him to sustain his lead to the final holes.

Aaron Wise competed with the AJGA in 2012. The 20-year-old finished in the top 10 in all his AJGA events. The former Oregon Duck’s best finish came at the 2012 AJGA Junior Open at The Legends where he finished T2 at 10-under-par 206.
