Olympia Fields set for LPGA Tour Major

Olympia Fields Country Club hosts the second LPGA Tour major of the year this week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Headlined by a long list of AJGA alumnae, the 63rd Championship will look to match up to last year’s dramatic playoff finish.

In 2016, Brooke Henderson topped then-world No. 1 Lydia Ko with a birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff for the title at the age of 18. Henderson recently won her fourth LPGA Tour tournament at the Meijer LPGA Classic on June 18.

Henderson succeeded from a young age while with the AJGA. After finishing runner-up at her first AJGA event in 2010, she went on to win two AJGA tournaments and finish top 10 in all but one.

Prior to Henderson’s 2016 victory, Inbee Park enjoyed one of the most successful major streaks in recent memory. The South Korean won the Championship in three consecutive years, twice in a playoff, to become the sixth three-time winner in the tournament’s history and first since AJGA tournament host Annika Sorenstam threepeated from 2003-05.

World No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn and No. 4 Lexi Thompson highlight additional alumnae in the field this week. Between the two of them, Jutanugarn and Thompson have combined for 14 LPGA and eight AJGA victories.

Tee times for the 156-player field begin at 7:30 a.m. CT.
