SANTA ROSA, Calif. – For the first time since 2012, the East Team are Wyndham Cup champions, 28.5-21.5, to improve their overall record to 10-15-3.

Chief Operating Officer Mark Oskarson, and Tournament Director Alyssa Randolph, captained a team of 11 Wyndham Cup veterans from seven states east of the Texas and North Dakota border. The East Team members will join the ranks of alumni like Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed, Patrick Rodgers, Webb Simpson, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Beth Bauer, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, In-Bee Park, Morgan Pressel and Lexi Thompson.

The last time the East Team claimed the title, “The Putt” from Cody Proveaux clinched the win on No. 18. Proveaux and fellow teammates Mariah Stackhouse and Jaye Marie Green defeated Masters participant Brad Dalke, U.S. Open Low Amateur Scottie Scheffler and LPGA Tour player Alison Lee at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge.

In the 28th installment of the event, Rachel Heck of Memphis, Tennessee, clinched the deciding point for the East with a 4&3 win over Yujeong Son of Norman, Oklahoma. The match went back and forth before Heck picked up a stroke on No. 9 and led until No. 15 was conceded. The No. 1 player in the AJGA Rankings finished 2-0-2 for a two-year record of 4-2-2.

John Pak of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, improved his record to 4-3-1 in his two trips to the Wyndham Cup, finishing up with a 5&4 win over Shuai Ming Wong of The Woodlands, Texas. Pak’s third point of the week put the East within a half point of the team’s first outright title since 2011.

“I think what really sealed the deal was my putt on No. 10,” the future Florida State Seminole said. “It was about 20 feet, left to right, and at that point, I had all the momentum. Garrett [Barber], Won Jun [Lee] and Khavish [Varadan] were watching me, they got me hyped up and said we were doing well. At that point, I knew we were going to win.”

Prescott Butler of Old Westbury, New York, proved to be the most valuable player for the East, providing four points for the squad. Butler was the last boy in on the East Team after a T2 finish at the Polo Golf Junior Classic. The 2018 grad only played Nos. 16-18 once during the week, winning his matches 2-up, 4&3, 5&4 and 5&3. Eugene Hong of Orlando, Florida, and Paphangkorn Tavatanakit of Van Nuys, California, joined Butler as the only 4-0-0 players for the week.

The West won six matches and halved three in the final day of singles, with marquee wins from Brooke Seay of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California. Seay birdied her first three holes, including an 8-foot downhill putt on the par-3 No. 3 to take a commanding lead over Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The 2017 ANNIKA Invitational champion polished off the win with a long putt from off the fringe of No. 13 to win 7&5. Castillo never trailed in his match against Khavish Varadan of Wesley Chapel, Florida, earning his first point of the week for the West Team.
