U.S. Junior Amateur Preview

This week 134 AJGA members are competing in the U.S. Junior Amateur which is being contested at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas. The six-day tournament features a field of 156 in which 86 percent are AJGA members.

Among the AJGA members is No. 1 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, Noah Goodwin of Corinth, Texas. Goodwin was named the Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2016 and won the 2017 CB&I / Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods.

Trent Phillips of Inman, South Carolina, is also in the field. Phillips is No. 7 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and won the 2017 Haas Family Invitational presented by BB&T.

On Tuesday, Austin Eckroat of Edmond, Oklahoma, claimed stroke play medalist honors. Eckroat is No. 17 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The Oklahoma State University commit has 12 top-15 finishes in AJGA events, including a T13 showing at the 2017 CB&I / Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods.

On Wednesday, the tournament went to match play format with 64 players advancing to face each other. Of the 64 players, 60 are AJGA members.

Along with Goodwin and Phillips, there are two other players in the top 10 of the Rolex AJGA Rankings who advanced to match play. The No. 5 player, Noah Norton of Chico, California, and the No. 8 player, Kaiwen Liu of (China) San Diego, California.
