After First Round is Completed, Boehme leads Boys Division at AJGA Huntsville Junior presented by The Huntsville Athletic Club
Talley Turns it Around on Back-Nine to Take Lead at The Ledges

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The first round of the AJGA Huntsville Junior presented by the Huntsville Athletic Club concluded Wednesday morning with 12 players finishing up in the Boys Division. Play was suspended due to darkness Tuesday due to two rain delays totaling three hours and forty minutes earlier in the day. John Boehme of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. leads in the Boys Division after shooting a 1-under-par 70. Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., carded a 4-under-par 67 to lead by five after the first-round in the Girls Division.

The AJGA Huntsville Junior presented by The Huntsville Athletic Club is a 54-hole stroke-play tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at The Ledges. The field features 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states. The Boys Division is playing the par-71 course at 7,044 yards while the Girls Division is playing at 6,029 yards.

Boehme had three birdies on the front nine along with a double bogey on No. 8. On the back Boehme was even-par for the round heading into No. 17. On the par-4 seventeenth Boehme made a long putt for birdie to put him in red numbers. But, Boehme says the key hole came earlier in the round.

“On No. 2, the hardest hole on the course, I made birdie,” said Boehme. “Stuck it to about seven feet on that hole and then just made the putt right when it started raining.”

Rounding out the top five in the Boys Division are Tolver Dozier of Dothan, Ala., Robby Prater of Birmingham, Ala., Sean Stone of Evansville, Ind., and Michael Wallace of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who are all tied for second after shooting even-par 71s.

Talley shot an even-par 35 on the front nine with two bogeys and two birdies. Then on the back-nine, she made four birdies to shoot a 4-under-par 32.

“I had two bogeys on the front-nine and for the first five holes on the front, I couldn't get anything going,” said Talley. “On the back side everything was going my way. I was hitting my approach shots very, very close and it was just tap-in birdie putts all day.”

In second place is Sarah Harris of Hermitage, Tenn., who shot a 1-over-par 72. Rounding out the top three is Janie Jackson of Huntsville, Ala., who is in third place after carding a 2-over-par 73.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Charles Howell III, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.

Wednesday's second-round tee times for the AJGA Huntsville Junior presented by The Huntsville Athletic Club began at 7 am and will run until 12:20 pm off of the No. 1 tee at The Ledges. For more information, please call Tournament Director Tommy Tangtiphaiboontana at (678) 617-2424
