Amateur Round-up

Colt Knost won the U.S. Amateur, defeating Michael Thompson 2 and 1 Sunday. Knost, who was recently named to the U.S. Walker Cup Team, becomes only the second player to win the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Amateur Public Links championships in the same year.

Rickie Fowler and Kyle Stanley have been added to the 2007 U.S. Walker Cup team. They join Jamie Lovemark, Billy Horschel, Dustin Johnson, Chris Kirk, Jonathan Moore, Webb Simpson and Trip Kuehne in hopes of retaining the cup Sept. 8-9 at Royal Country Down in Northern Ireland.

Professional Round-up

Paula Creamer will play on her second U.S. Solheim Cup team.

Steve Stricker captured his first PGA TOUR title in six years at The Barclays, the first tournament in the TOUR's inaugural FedEx Cup playoffs. Stricker birdied four of his last five holes for a final-round 2-under-par 69.

Lorena Ochoa claimed her third consecutive LPGA Tour title, capturing the Safeway Classic with a five-stroke margin of victory over a group of players including In-Bee Park and Christina Kim.

The 2007 U.S. Solheim Cup Team was announced Sunday. AJGA alumnae on the squad include Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Laura Diaz, Nicole Castrale and Pat Hurst.The Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 14-16 at Halmstad Golf Club in Sweden.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
