Amateur Round-up

Former AJGA member Rory Hie, a three-time Rolex Junior All-American, took home the trophy when he finished 21-under-par at the Dogwood Invitational held at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta. Hie currently plays for USC and was a first-team All-American this past season, finishing No. 6 in the Golfweek/ Sagarin College Rankings.

Professional Round-up

Inbee Park

This past Sunday AJGA alumna, Inbee Park, the 2002 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, became a role model for young women everywhere, winning the U.S. Women’s Open at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn., two weeks before her 20th birthday. Park has been playing golf for 10 years and was the only player in the final nine groups to break par. She finished the tournament at 9-under-par for a tournament total of 283, four strokes ahead of Helen Alfredsson. Park was joined at the U.S. Women’s Open by ten current AJGA members early in the week. Jessica Korda of Bradenton, Fla., and Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., made the cut and played the weekend at Interlachen. Korda, a 2011 graduate, finished tied for 19th after shooting a final round 4-under-par 69.

Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., once again proved to be an excellent competitor winning her third Duramed Futures Tour title Sunday at the Horseshoe Casino Classic. Hurst, the 2007 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, finished the event at 3-under-par with a tournament total of 213, adding this tournament to her ever-expanding list of wins. She also recorded wins at the Jalapeno Golf Classic in April and the Michelob Ultra Duramed Future Players Championship earlier in June.
