AJGA Board member Emily “Missy” Crisp and husband Peter Crisp of Hobe Sound, Florida, began the year with an endowment to the American Junior Golf Association’s Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program.
Mrs. Crisp has served on the AJGA’s Board of Directors since 2005 in addition to being active with many other boards including the USGA’s Executive Committee, Executive Women’s Golf Association, Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association, U.S. Senior Women’s Golf Association and Women’s Long Island Golf Association. Professionally, she was president and founder of Crisp Computer Corporation, and chief financial officer and an owner of Admit Computer Services.
Actively linked to education through her role as president and chairman of the board of trustees of Miss Porter’s School and her 20 years of teaching experience at the Green Vale School, Crisp said her role with the AJGA Board allows her to connect two of her passions in a meaningful way.
“I have seen how competitive golf at this level develops character, commitment and a work ethic that is life-changing,” Crisp said. “Providing more young people this opportunity is important to Peter and me, and no one does it with more care and consistency than the AJGA. We are excited that this grant will provide more deserving youngsters an opportunity to earn golf scholarships and attend college.”
Peter Crisp, a graduate of Yale, Harvard Business School and three years of service in the U. S. Air Force, worked for the Rockefeller Family for 50 years managing their investments. He was a founding general partner of Venrock Associates, an entity funded by the Rockefeller Family, which invested in many early stage technology companies. Throughout his life, he has been active in philanthropic activities including serving on the boards of three hospitals, two schools and many other nonprofit organizations.
“I am very impressed with the AJGA,” Peter Crisp said. “We have confidence that these funds will be administered and delivered with great thought and care.”
The Crisp endowment is the first such gift from an AJGA Board member and the 15th overall endowment gift to the program since its inception in 2003. The ACE Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who lack the economic resources to play a national junior golf schedule and ultimately earn a college golf scholarship.
Since 2003, the AJGA has reimbursed more than $2.5 million to more than 724 junior golfers which equates to more than $13 million in college scholarships.
