The American Junior Golf Association believes strongly in the importance of fostering an employee from the very beginning. 85% of full-time staff begin their journey at the AJGA through some form of internship, whether it is a traveling or in-house position.
The AJGA offers many types of internships over the spring and summer seasons. In the spring, the two main internships are the Traveling Communications internship and the Traveling Operations internship . In addition to the two traveling internships, in-house positions are also open in the summer.
One of the opportunities that the AJGA internship provides, is the chance to work with professional golfers. Tournament hosts include Mariah Stackhouse, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Ben An, Adam Scott, K.J. Choi, and many more. Many of these tournament hosts credit the AJGA interns and staff for being a big part of why they continue to partner with the AJGA year after year.
The traveling communications internship was an incredible experience. I was able to develop many skills whilst making fun memories with new lifelong friends.
Intern teams travel to various cities throughout the U.S., and are able to visit many different states. Baseball games, hiking and concerts are just some of the various activities that interns in the past have been able to enjoy during their downtime. Aside from learning invaluable skills on the road, the internship fosters a culture of having fun and friendship.
During the second week of my internship, my team and I were able to watch a Dallas Mavericks game. We also were able to play The Cradle when we were in the Pinehurst area for a tournament. I was able to check off so many bucket list items during my spring internship!
The AJGA also offers different in-house internships over the summer. Unlike the traveling position, there is not an age requirement for these positions. In-house internship positions include video internship, player services internship, finance internship and communications internship. They are all a great opportunities to those that are interested in the behind-the-scenes of working for a non-profit or in the sports industry.
Working for the AJGA has enhanced my knowledge on non-profit organizations and the junior golf community. The caring and friendly energy everyone has within the workplace was very valuable to me. I was blown away by the amount of effort everyone puts into creating opportunities for junior golfers, and I was glad to be apart of that process.
In addition to a great spring or summer, the AJGA internship provides numerous job and networking opportunities. The AJGA hires 100% of new-hires from the internship, and all of the current officers have completed the internship. Other companies that AJGA interns have gone on to work for include: USGA, PGA TOUR, ANNIKA Foundation, Augusta National Golf Club, Intersport, Wasserman, LPGA, and more !
The 2023 summer traveling internship deadline is on January 9, 2023, and the summer in-house internship deadline is on February 5, 2023. Apply today !
