AJGA Trailblazers: Mitch Garlitz

Learn more about Mitch Garlitz's journey from the AJGA to Major League Baseball

This month, we feature Mitch Garlitz, a former AJGA staff member who now serves as the Manager of Major Event Services with REV Entertainment and the Texas Rangers. Garlitz completed the AJGA’s Operations Internship in the summer of 2019 before joining the organization full-time as a Tournament Director in 2020. After two years of running tournaments nationwide, he transitioned to the Tournament Business Affairs department.  He served as the Regional Manager of the Northeast region for just over a year.

Garlitz graduated from Texas Tech University in 2019 with a degree in Sport Management. He first discovered the AJGA Internship through TeamWork Online and was immediately drawn to the travel aspect of the program.

“Before the internship, I didn’t have the opportunity to travel west of New Mexico,” Garlitz shared. “I was placed on the team that was placed out west and fortunately got to travel to a whole new group of states.”

As a lifelong baseball fan, Garlitz especially enjoyed the opportunity to travel the country with the AJGA, with the opportunities to attend baseball games with his team throughout the summer.

After his internship, Garlitz was hired full time as a Tournament Director, where he spent the next several years learning the intricacies of running golf events, working with sponsors and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders daily.

“The AJGA helped prepare me so much for my current role. From budgeting to how to communicate with different parties…the AJGA does a great job giving staff a solid foundation for anything you want to do or develop.”

At the beginning of 2023, Garlitz took the next step in his career by joining REV Entertainment and the Texas Rangers. In his current role, his day-to-day responsibilities range from overseeing college baseball tournaments to managing a variety of special events hosted at Globe Life Field.

“I have a large hand in coordinating all our sporting events here at Globe Life Field outside of Rangers Baseball,” Garlitz said. “Anywhere from Big 12 Championships to IndyCar, it’s great with all the variety there.”

Growing up as a passionate Rangers fan, accepting the role was a no-brainer for Garlitz. He shared that the atmosphere and people he works alongside each day are some of the biggest highlights with the organization so far.

“Being at the ballpark every day is a dream. Also, the relationships I’ve build while here with the full-time staff in every department, as well as the people I get work with on the college baseball side is always a pleasure.”

Garlitz’s story is just one of the many AJGA can share. Reflecting on his own experience, he emphasizes the importance of building relationships and networking for anyone hoping to break into the sports industry.

“On the AJGA Internship, you run into a lot of interesting people,” Garlitz said. "Be personable with them and you never know where that relationship will lead.”
