As another spring season ends, we reflect on the 33 talented interns who embarked on an eight-week journey with the 2026 Spring Traveling Internship. Alongside four intern teams, one intern served as a Tournament Assistant. In March, all interns gathered at AJGA headquarters in Braselton, Georgia, for training before forming teams and traveling across the country to help further the AJGA’s mission.
The spring intern class represents 31 universities across 20 states from all around the United States. Each team is composed of six operations interns and two communications interns. Though they come from different places, the bonds formed during the internship are long-lasting.
“One of my favorite parts of the internship was how close everyone became throughout the experience. When you spend that much time traveling, working long days, and navigating new places together, friendships naturally become meaningful. I know these are friendships that will last far beyond just one spring.”
Communications interns share the story of each event. They are responsible for on-site media coverage, including photography, social media, interviews and sponsor activation. While storytelling is their primary focus, communications interns also gain well-rounded experience by assisting with operations when needed. The communications internship highlights the many aspects and opportunities within sports media.
“The communications internship was an amazing experience because the AJGA encourages you to ask questions, no matter how silly they may seem, while also supporting your ideas. I learned so much about myself as an employee and as a person.”
Operations interns handle the day-to-day execution of tournaments. Their responsibilities include setup and breakdown, assisting with rules officiating, and managing essential tournament logistics. Just as importantly, they develop leadership and customer service skills that are critical to running successful events. As part of their experience, they also work closely with tournament directors to understand the behind-the-scenes planning that goes into each event.
“I enjoyed being a rules official because it allowed me to build real relationships with players and parents throughout tournaments and season. You become a familiar and trusted presence on the course, which helps create a better experience for everyone involved.”
In addition to professional development and career skills, interns gain a one-of-a-kind experience throughout the eight weeks. Collectively traveling more than 17,500 miles, they had the opportunity to explore new cities, gain new experiences and create lasting memories. Interns also collaborated with tournament hosts and sponsors such as media personality Will Lowery, professional golfer K.J. Choi, TaylorMade and Mizuno.
As another intern class leaves its mark on AJGA history, one constant remains: the development of future leaders in the sports industry. As the backbone of the AJGA, the internship continues to be regarded as one of the best in sports.
