Norwich, Snyder lead Boys Division by two strokes

Kylie Chong of Torrance, California, shot the low round of the day with a 7-under-par 65 to grab a three-stroke lead in the Girls Division after the first round.

Chong's round included six birdies and a chip-in eagle on No. 10 to just one bogey on her day. The No. 87 Rolex AJGA Ranked player is looking to return to the AJGA winners' circle for the first time since her victory at the 2020 AJGA Junior All-Star at Morongo.

Vunnisa Vu of Clovis, California, sits in second after an opening round score of 4-under-par 68, while Kendall Todd, of Goodyear, Arizona, rounded out the top three with a 3-under-par 69.

In the Boys Division, Jackson Norwich of El Paso, Texas, and Mason Snyder of Las Vegas, Nevada, each carded rounds of 6-under-par 66 to tie for the lead.

Snyder, who was the winner of the June 4 AJGA Lake Las Vegas Junior, began his quest for a second consecutive victory by making seven opening round birdies. The class of 2023 member made three straight birdies on Nos. 4-6, followed by four in a row on Nos. 10-13.

For his part, Norwich opened with a front nine 4-under-par 32 and like Snyder, recorded seven total birdies to just one bogey.
