Tim Huber of The Club at Carlton Woods has been named the 2017 Superintendent of the Year by the American Junior Golf Association. The Club at Carlton Woods has hosted the AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods since 2009.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual hospitality, Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, charitable giving and volunteer base. Awards are also given to the events with engaged media and social media participation. Finally, the AJGA recognizes the year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and general manager, as well as the most improved event, best new event, best Junior Golf Hub Preview Series tournament, best ACDS Junior All-Star Series tournament, best Invitational and overall tournament of the year. Tournament awards for the 2017 season will be presented on-site at 2018 tournaments.

“It’s always nice to be recognized for the hard work, but it’s a credit to the staff and the crew that I’m lucky to work with,” Huber said. “The members at this club are so supportive, especially through all the challenges with the hurricane. There is such a great group of members and staff, it’s great to share this with them.”

The AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods is a staple on the AJGA schedule. The Invitational has been conducted since 1987 with the last 10 events at The Club at Carlton Woods. The tournament has featured past champions such as Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth. Each year the event includes a top-five strength of field in junior golf.

Huber has been essential in keeping the course in prime condition since accepting his superintendent position in 2010. In 2017 specifically, the course and surrounding area was heavily affected by Hurricane Harvey. At one point during the storm, No. 18 green was under 30 feet of water and portions of several holes were completely washed out. Huber and his team united after the storm rolled through to open the course within a week.

“Tim is a tremendous asset to this event. His dedication to golf course preparation is part of what makes him so special,” said Jeremy Freyman, AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods Tournament Director. “When we have had to tackle unforeseen circumstances, such as weather, Tim and his team are always right there to ensure the golf course is in peak tournament condition, and they make every effort to ensure we are able to conduct the full tournament.”

The dedication of Huber and his staff to the success of the AJGA event are what set Huber apart. In 2018, the AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods will be conducted February 16 – 19.
