Several AJGA members finished atop the leaderboard after the final day of individual stroke play competition at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games Golf Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Of the 64 players who competed in the individual competition, 20 are AJGA members.
In the Boys Division, six AJGA members finished inside the top-10, including gold-medalist Karl Vilips of (Australia) Wesley Chapel, Florida.
The two-time Rolex Junior All-American, fired a 1-under-par 69 in the final round to finish individual stroke play at 4-under-par 206. Vilips, the No. 4 player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, has five AJGA tournament titles in his career with the most recent one coming at the 2018 Wyndham Invitational presented by BB&T.
Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, North Carolina, finished two strokes behind Vilips at 2-under-par 208. Bhatia, the top-ranked player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, has five AJGA tournament titles in his career, and he also has back-to-back Boys Junior PGA Championships in 2017 and 2018. The two-time Rolex Junior All-American also represented the United States at the 2018 Junior Ryder Cup.
Four AJGA members also finished inside the top-10 of the Girls Division.
Alessia Nobilio of Rozzano (MI), Italy, earned silver medalist honors after finishing the individual tournament in second place. Nobilio was a member of the 2017 European PING Junior Solheim Cup Team, and she also has two top-20 finishes in her career.
Emma Spitz of Gollersdorf, Austria, finished the event in third place, earning bronze medalist honors. Spitz represented Europe at the 2016 Junior Ryder Cup, and she posted a 2-1-0 record. Spitz was also a member of two European PING Junior Solheim Cup Teams, earning a 4-1-1 record.
Three-time AJGA champion Lucy Li of Redwood Shores, California, finished T8. A one-time Rolex Junior All-American, Li is currently No. 2 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. Li also represented the United States at the 2016 and 2018 Junior Ryder Cups, where she combined for a 4-2-0 record.
Competition will resume with the mixed gender team stroke play competition scheduled for October 13-15.
