Ole Miss wins NCAA Women's National Championship

The Rebels defeated Oklahoma State University 4-1 to claim the first women's national championship title in school history.

On May 26, the Ole Miss Women's golf team claimed their program's first NCAA national championship, defeating Oklahoma State 4-1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Their win also secured the first NCAA national championship title for any women's athletic program at Ole Miss.

The Ole Miss team consists of nine players, including four AJGA alumni.

  • McKinley Cunningham of Clarksville, Tennessee
  • Julia Johnson of St. Gabriel, Louisiana
  • Macy Somoskey of Sanford, Florida
  • Kennedy Swann of Austin, Texas

The runner-up Oklahoma State team is made up of eleven players, including six AJGA alums.

  • Ashton Begley of Southlake, Texas
  • Isabella Fierro of Merida, Mexico
  • Maddison Hinson-Tolchard of Perth, Australia
  • Hailey Jones of Dallas, Texas
  • Maja Stark of Abbekas, Sweden
  • Emma Whitaker of Wichita, Kansas

AJGA alumni Johnson and Swann from Ole Miss both competed in the championship round. Johnson defeated Tatematsu of Bangkok, Thailand 4&3. Swann defeated fellow AJGA alum Stark 2&1. In addition to Stark, AJGA alumni Fierro and Hinson-Tolchard from OSU also played in championship matches.

Swann and Fierro were successful AJGA junior golfers. Swann had four top-5 finishes at AJGA tournaments including runner-up at the 2015 Valero Junior Texas Open and 2016 Under Armourยฎ / Jordan Spieth Championship presented by American Campus Communities. Fierro was a Rolex Junior All-America in 2016. She also won the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior All-Star in 2014.
