AJGA alumni, Scottie Scheffler, secured a victory at the 2023 Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club. 20 of the world’s top-ranked golfers came together in Albany, Bahamas to compete in the event.
After finishing runner-up in 2021 and 2022, Scheffler claimed the Hero World Challenge title with a three-stroke victory. In his opening round, Scheffler carded a 3-under-par 69. He followed-up the next day carding eight birdies to shoot a low round of 6-under-par 66. It wasn't until the third round where Scheffler jumped to the top of the leaderboard. His round started off strong with an eagle on the par-5 No. 3, followed by four birdies on Nos. 6, 7, 9 and 12. Scheffler continued his momentum and fired off an additional eagle on No. 15. It wasn't until the final hole of the day where he found a solo bogey to finish at a 7-under-par 65 and take the lead. In the final round, Scheffler carded a bogey-free round highlighted by four birdies. He finished the tournament at 20-under-par to secure the victory.
Scheffler was a standout AJGA junior. The three-time Rolex Junior All-American played in many AJGA events throughout his junior career. He had nine top-5 or better finishes with his best AJGA finish as a co-medalist at the 2009 Qualifier - Bob Estes Abilene Junior.
