AJGA alumni, Tom Hoge and Sahith Theegala, won the 34th QBE Shootout on December 11, 2022. They are the first rookie team to win in over a decade. The tournament was played at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
The opening round of the tournament is played as a traditional scramble and the team shot a 12-under-par 60. They combined for 10 birdies and one eagle on the par-4 No. 13. The second round was played as modified alternate shot, where the team shot another 12-under-par 60. This put them in sole second heading into the final round.
The final round was played in a four-ball format. As the team battled back, on the final hole, Theegala made a 15-foot birdie to finish the round 10-under-par 62. Hoge and Theegala secured the champion title for the team with a one stroke lead.
Hoge and Theegala played in many AJGA tournaments throughout their junior careers. Hoge's best finishes came from the 2006 PING Phoenix Junior and 2006 Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands where he tied for ninth. Theegala earned six top-5 AJGA career finishes. The Rolex Junior All-American earned his first AJGA Champion title in 2011 at the Junior All-Star at Robinson Ranch. Both players went on to play collegiate golf. Hoge played golf at Texas Christian University and Theegala played at Pepperdine University.
