Professional Recap

AJGA alumnus Luke List made the most of his 206th start on the PGA TOUR, winning the Farmers Insurance Open in a playoff.

List entered the final round six shots back of leader and fellow AJGA alumnus Will Zalatoris. Despite having the likes of Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Jason Day ahead of him on the leaderboard, List focused on playing his own game.

Knowing he needed to make moves early in the round, List did just that when he fired four birdies in a row on Nos. 3-6. Now firmly in contention, List carded five pars in a row before adding another birdie on the par-4 No. 12. He continued his steady play into the closing stretch, as he parred Nos. 13-15 and made another birdie on the par-3 No. 16 to grab a share of the lead.

That share of the lead was short lived however, as List put his drive on No. 17 into the right rough and proceeded to make a bogey. With his chance of victory riding on the par-5 No. 18, List hit his approach to just under 13 feet and proceeded to drain the birdie putt to grab the clubhouse lead at 15-under-par 273.

From there, all List could do was wait. In fact, it took two hours for Zalatoris to reach the 18th green, where he ultimately missed his tournament winning birdie putt. From there, List and Zalatoris headed back to No. 18 for a sudden-death playoff, which List won with a birdie.

List competed in AJGA tournaments from 1999-2003. The two-time Rolex Junior All-American earned eight top-15 finishes in 30 national junior golf tournament appearances.

List wasn't the only playoff winner over the weekend... AJGA alumnus Viktor Hovland earned his second European Tour win in a playoff at the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic.

Hovland had his work cut out for him entering the final round. Not only did he start six shots off the lead, but he had to contend with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and Adam Scott.

Hovland got off to a hot start with a birdie on the first hole, which was a stark contrast to the bogeys he made on that hole during the second and third rounds. After making a par on No. 2, Hovland proceeded to go birdie-bogey-birdie on Nos. 3-5. He added another birdie on the par-4 No. 8 to make the turn at 3-under-par 32. Hovland was now in the thick of it.

After making five pars to start his back nine, Hovland made an untimely bogey on the par-3 No. 15. That proved to be the last mistake the Norwegian would make however, as Hovland went birdie-eagle-birdie on the final three holes to post the lowest round of the day at 6-under-par 66. That was enough to secure his spot in a playoff with Richard Bland at 12-under-par 276.

The sudden-death playoff took place on the par-5 No. 18, and it was Hovland who emerged victorious with a birdie. This was his sixth professional victory.

Hovland competed in two AJGA tournaments in 2015, finishing T7 at the Thunderbird International Junior and T9 at The Junior PLAYERS Championship.
