Professional Recap

AJGA alumnus Trey Mullinax won his first PGA Tour title this weekend at the Barbasol Championship. Hosted on the Champion Trace Course at Keen Trace Golf Club, Trey fired rounds of 65-65-67-66 for a total of 25-under-par 263.

On Thursday, Trey fired seven birdies to cruise his way into a first round score of 7-under-par 65. With low scores all-around the first day, he was three-strokes behind first-round leader, Adam Svensson. Mullinax followed up his first round with eight birdies and one bogey to shoot another 7-under-par 65 for round two. In his third round, Mullinax had four birdies, one eagle and one bogey to finish his round with a 5-under-par 67. Trey began the final round tied for third place, three strokes back of the leader. He birdied three of his four opening holes, but found himself making a bogey on the par-5 No. 5. After two more birdies on hole par-4 No. 7 and par-5 No. 8, he made another bogey on par-3 No. 9. After making the turn at 3-under-par, Trey made three more birdies on the back nine to finish the round with a 6-under-par 66. In dramatic fashion, Mullinax made a big birdie on par-4 No. 18 to break a tie with Kevin Streelman, who parred the final hole. This win earned Mullinax an exemption into this week's major, The Open Championship.

Mullinax competed in three AJGA tournaments as a junior. His best finish was T3 at the 2009 Preseason Junior at St. James Plantation. He also competed in the 2009 AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T and the 2010 Laredo Energy Junior at Traditions. Trey went on to be apart of the 2013 and 2014 University of Alabama team that won the NCAA Division 1 men's golf championship back-to-back.

AJGA alumna Lucy Li captured her second Epson Tour win this past weekend at the Twin Bridges Championship in Albany, New York. Li previously won this past June at the Carolina Golf Classic presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. The two victories, both just a little over a month apart, have kept Li in the No. 1 spot in the Race for the Card.

Lucy started the tournament hot, making five birdies in her first 10 holes. She made her first bogey of the tournament on the par-3 No. 11, but capped her round off with one final birdie on the par-4 No. 18 to shoot a 5-under-par 66 for the day. In the second round, Li breezed through the front nine again, making three birdies on her way to a 3-under-par 32 on the front. Li made another bogey on the par-3 No. 11, but bounced back with birdies on the par-3 No. 14 and the par-5 No. 17. Lucy then made a bogey on the final hole of the day, the par-4 No. 18 to shoot a 3-under-par 68 for the day. Li headed into the final round as the sole tournament leader. During the final round, Lucy recorded her first front nine bogey, on the par-3 No. 3. From there, she made three birdies throughout the round to shoot a 2-under-par 69 for the day and a tournament total of 10-under-par 203. Runner-up Linnea Strom, finished four strokes behind Li.

Li had many AJGA career highlights. Most notably, she was a three-time First Team Rolex Junior All-American and a two-time Rolex Scholastic Junior All-American. The 20-year-old also represented the West Team three times at the Wyndham Cup and represented Team USA in the 2017 and 2019 PING Junior Solheim Cup. To add more to her longstanding list of accomplishments, Li also won the 2019 Polo Golf Junior Classic at Liberty National.
