AJGA alumnus Carlos Ortiz earned his first PGA TOUR victory on Sunday at the Vivint Houston Open. Despite the difficult course conditions, Ortiz led the field in scrambling, getting up-and-down 18 of 21 times.
Ortiz, who entered the final round just one stroke off the lead, holed out twice from off the green on the front nine to make the turn with a two-shot lead. He secured the win with birdies on two of his final three holes.
With this victory, Ortiz became the third player from Mexico to win on the PGA TOUR and the first to accomplish the feat in 42 years.
An AJGA member from 2006-08, Ortiz finished fourth at the 2008 Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic.

Two AJGA alumnae graduated from the Symetra Tour last week. Frida Kinhult and Janie Jackson earned their LPGA Tour memberships after finishing in the top five on the Volvik Race for the Card money list.
Kinhult earned her lone victory of the year at the Symetra Tour Championship. She garnered four top-15 finishes in eight starts with just one missed cut. An AJGA member for three years (2015-16, 2018), Kinhult finished T4 at the 2018 ANNIKA Invitational USA presented by Rolex and T5 at the 2016 Polo Golf Junior Classic. She also competed in the 2017 PING Junior Solheim Cup, finishing with a 1-1-1 record for Team Europe.
Jackson kicked off her 2020 Symetra Tour season with a win at Florida's Natural Charity Classic. She secured her spot in the Volvik Race for the Card top five with a T5 finish at the Symetra Tour Championship. Jackson competed in AJGA tournaments from 2007-12. She won the 2010 AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Franklin American Mortgage Company and the 2009 Junior All-Star at Ballantyne.
