Professional Recap

AJGA alumnus Patrick Cantlay ended the 2020-2021 PGA TOUR season with a bang. Cantlay rounded out the season with back-to-back wins at the BMW Championship and TOUR Championship. Those were his third and fourth wins of the season, respectively.

The BMW Championship victory propelled Cantlay to the top of the FedExCup Standings with one week to go in the season. Due to the TOUR Championship format, Cantlay started the tournament at 10-under-par. He rode that advantage to victory, topping Jon Rahm by one stroke at 21-under-par.

Cantlay competed in AJGA tournaments for six years (2005-10). He was a two-time First Team Rolex Junior All-American who won the 2008 ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior.

Team Europe won their second Solheim Cup in a row by a score of 15-13 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Of the 12 golfers on the European team, eight were AJGA alumnae. Those players are Sophia Popov, Leona Maguire, Anna Nordqvist, Charley Hull, Celine Boutier, Emily Pedersen, Mel Reid and Georgia Hall.

Team Europe was led by Solheim Cup rookie Maguire, who went unbeaten (4-0-1) and was the only player on either side to participate in all five sessions. Maguire competed on behalf of Team Europe at the 2009 and 2011 PING Junior Solheim Cups.

Captain Steve Stricker made his final selections for the six remaining Ryder Cup spots on Team USA. Of those selections, five are AJGA alumni. Tony Finau is the only player who didn't compete in the AJGA growing up.
