Betsy Rawls Legacy Award Honoree
Each year the AJGA honors a member of the golf community for their service to advancing girls junior golf. The 2019 honoree is Jordan Robert “Digger” Smith. Digger Smith has dedicated himself to the AJGA and to junior golf for more than three decades. The 37- year AJGA Chairman of the Board, is the 2019 Betsy Rawls Legacy Award honoree. Smith is being honored for his great service, dedication and contribution to girl’s golf over his lifetime. “The most satisfying thing about my contributions to junior golf is knowing that, in a small way, I am helping outstanding young people gain the opportunity for a college education. There is life after golf, but what these people gain from the spirit of competition, in the way of building character and lifelong friendships, will be with them their entire lives.” Smith first came to the AJGA by way of his daughter, Chris, a charter member of the association. From this initial encounter with the AJGA he helped push for increased girls’ involvement in junior golf. Smith is also credited with establishing the AJGA’s National Headquarters through a generous gift.
