Christensen III storms back for AJGA win

  • Thomas Christensen III of Coral Springs, Florida, torched Osprey Point for eight birdies in the final round for a 7-under-par 65 to win the Boys Division with a tournament-total 6-under-par 138. The 16-year-old began the final round four strokes off the lead after carding a 1-over-par 73 in the first round that included an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. Christensen III came storming back with four birdies on the front nine and four on the back that helped secure his first AJGA win as well as the low round in the Boys Division.
  • “Just coming out here and being able to make as many birdies as I did and limiting the mistakes just felt good on the inside,” said the Pompano Beach High School junior.
  • Alan Klenor of (Czech Republic) Longboat Key, Florida, and Britt Pero of Dunedin, Florida, finished T2 at 4-under-par 140 after each player shot final-round scores of 3-under-par 69 and 2-under-par 70, respectively. Klenor carded four birdies during the final round, while Pero totaled six.
  • Two players also finished tied for fourth place in the Boys Division. Atsyua Oishi of (Japan) Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Matthew Bruton of Bradenton, Florida, each fired a tournament-total 2-under-par 142. Oishi eagled the par-4 fourth hole during the final round, and recorded two other birdies on the front nine to finish 1-under-par 71. Bruton carded a pair of birdies for a final-round score of 1-over-par 73.
  • Three juniors finished tied for first place in the Girls Division. Maika Llarena Cervantes of Puebla, Mexico; Rachel DeAngulo of Miami, Florida; and Kelly Shanahan of Coral Springs, Florida, finished as Co-Medalists with a tournament-total 3-over-par 147.

The AJGA Preview at Osprey Point is one of 15 events held as part of the Junior Golf Hub Preview Series. The Junior Golf Hub Preview Series is designed specifically for AJGA members who have not yet played/been accepted to an AJGA tournament. This series, conducted during the spring, offers these new and returning members the opportunity to start building Performance Based Entry status before application deadlines arrive for summer Open and ACDS Junior All-Star Series events.
