FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – At the end of the second-round, the girls team continues to dominate holding an 11 stroke lead over the boys. You Seong Choi of (South Korea) Hacienda Heights, California, still holds his lead atop the Boys Division and Taylor Kehoe of (Canada) Strathroy, Ontario, leads in the Girls Division after the second round.
This is the 5th anniversary of the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational, an event that has been hosted at the Blessings Golf Club. The Blessings Golf Club was most recently host to the 2019 NCAA DI Men’s and Women’s Golf Championship. This is the only AJGA tournament to have mixed pairings with one boy and one girl in every group. Stacy Lewis wanted to create an event where boys and girls could play together to promote equality.
Choi continues his lead in the Boys Division after shooting a second round even-par 72. He recorded five birdies on the day and carded a bogey-free back nine to shoot 2-under-par 34. If Choi continues to hold his lead through the final round, this will be his first Invitational win and second victory of 2019.
Garrett Engle of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, sits three strokes back from the lead at 2-over-par 146. Engle carded 2-over-par 74 recording four birdies on the day. The rising junior has six top-10 AJGA career finishes including a third place finish at last years KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star.
Gaven Lane of Argyle, Texas, and Ian Maspat of San Diego, California, both sit tied for third at 3-over-par 147. Lane carded the lowest second round in the Boys Division with a 2-under-par 70 adding five birdies on the day. Maspat fired an even-par 72, recording five birdies in the second round.
Kehoe fired the lowest round on the day between both the boys and the girls at 3-under-par 69. She recorded five birdies and one eagle to gain a two stroke lead at 3-under-par 141. The rising sophomore has one AJGA win at the 2017 Mill Creek Foundation Junior All-Star.
Michelle Zhang of (China) Plano, Texas, and Leigh Chien of Irvine, California, both sit tied for second and are two strokes off the lead at 1-under-par 143. Zhang carded 4-over-par 76 with two birdies on the day. Chen recorded 2-over-par 74 with two birdies on the back nine.
The final round of the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational begins June 27 at 8:00 am off of Nos. 1 and 10 at Blessings Golf Club.
