Coyle maintains lead heading into final round

Norman, OK - Players battled windy conditions and fast greens in the second round of the AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational. Luke Coyle of Campbellsville, Kentucky, powered through the wind and finished the day 5-under-par 67 and a two-round total of 11-under-par 133, leaving him with a one-shot lead heading into the final round. The class of 2023 graduate has experience in intense competition after finishing third in the 2017 Drive, Chip and Putt Championships at Augusta National. Coyle is currently ranked No. 120 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and is looking for his first invitational win.

I just had to put the ball in the fairway today. The greens were really good and I felt confident that anything within ten feet was going in!

Sitting right behind Coyle on the leaderboard is Cy Norman of Benton, Illinois. Norman, a member of the 2020 Junior All-Star Team, carded seven birdies today to help him finish with a 6-under-par 66 and a two-round total of 10-under-par 134. The class of 2023 graduate has one win at the 2020 AJGA Stan Utley and Mid-America Youth Golf Foundation Junior All-Star and is looking for his first invitational win.

Abbey Schutte of Goodyear, Arizona, and Ashley Yun of West Covina, California, are tied for first after both shooting 2-over-par 74 in the second round. The pair have a one-shot lead with a two-round total of 6-under-par 138.

Schutte is currently ranked No. 85 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and has three top-10 finishes this year. Schutte is a two-year ACE (Achieving Competitive Excellence) Grant recipient and is looking for her first AJGA career win.

Today was a tough day with lots of wind and the greens were rolling fast but I'm happy with how I hung in there. I'm looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow of getting my first AJGA win.

Yun is currently ranked No. 95 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and was a Rolex Junior All-American in 2019. The class of 2023 graduate has two wins in her AJGA career and is a second-year ACE Grant recipient. She is seeking her first invitational win.

AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational History

Since 2000, the AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational has seen many great names compete and come out victorious. Noteworthy champions include Luke Potter (2018), Jackson Van Paris (2017), Philip Barbaree (2012), Sam Burns (2011), Bud Cauley (2005), Xin (Cindy) Kou (2018), Michaela Morard (2017), Erica Shepherd (2016), Yeahlimi Noh (2015) and Sierra Brooks (2011). This year also marks the second time that the tournament will be played in Norman, Oklahoma at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The home course to the University of Oklahoma hosted the event in 2013 which saw the University of California, Berkeley Freshman, Youxin (Robin) Wang and the University of Texas Junior Emilee Hoffman secure their victories.
