Junior All-Star Invitational celebrates 20th anniversary

Norman, OK - The AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational celebrates its 20th anniversary and will bring the top-ranked 12-15-year-old junior golfers to the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma. The 54-hole stroke play tournament has a 78-player field and will take place on October 9-12.

The AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational is the culminating year-end event in the Junior All-Star series which ran from June through September.

Alumni of the AJGA Junior All-Star series include college and professional standouts such as Jordan Spieth (2007), Rickie Fowler (2004), Morgan Hoffmann (2004), Beau Hossler (2009), Braden Thornberry (2012), Peter Uihlein (2004), Bud Cauley (2005), Vicky Hurst (2005), Cheyenne Woods (2005) and Alison Lee (2007).

About the AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational Field
This year's field features strong competition in both the Girls and Boys Divisions. Playing this year are two Rolex Junior All-Americans, 41 AJGA champions and three players verbally committed to play college golf. The Girls Division features 13 of the top-100 ranked girls in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, including Lucy Yuan of San Diego, currently ranked No. 20. The Boys Division features 11 of the top-100 ranked boys in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, including Ethan Gao of Alpharetta, Georgia, who is currently ranked No. 21.

Representatives five foreign countries and 22 U.S. states are set to compete in a staple on the AJGA's fall tournament season.

There are three players who are verbally committed to play collegiate golf, two of which are set to be future teammates.

-Arizona State University: Anawin Pikulthong of Gilbert, Arizona, and Connor Williams of Escondido, California.

-University of California, Berkley: Nathan Wang of Fremont, California.

    Players to watch:
    Lucy Yuan of San Diego, has ten top-20 finishes and her most recent win came at the 2020 AJGA Stan Utley and Mid-America Youth Golf Foundation Junior All-Star. Yuan also claimed low-round honors after carding a 2-under-par 70 in the final round.

    Caiyi (Flora) Zhang of (China) Bradenton, Florida, has eight top-10 finishes in her AJGA career and four top-five finishes so far in 2020. The 15-year-old's best finish of 2020 came at the UHY Detroit Junior at Forest Lake where she placed first.

    Sara Im of Duluth, Georgia, has four career victories under her belt and is coming off a T4 finish at the AJGA Girls Championship. The 15-year-old has four top-10 finishes this year including a victory at the AJGA Junior Open presented by Visit Sevierville/Tennessee Tourism. She is No. 44 in the Rolex AJGA Ranking.

    Ethan Gao of Alpharetta, Georgia, is currently ranked No. 21 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The 15-year old got his first AJGA victory of the year at the Callaway Golf Junior Classic presented by UHY. He has eight top-10 finishes in his career.

    Nicholas Gross of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, won his first AJGA event at the 2020 Junior Golf Hub Junior All-Star presented by Explore York and his second at the 2020 AJGA Junior All-Star at Toftrees. The 14-year-old is ranked No. 46 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and has five other career top-10 finishes to go along with his one win.

    William Jennings of Greenville, South Carolina, has four top-10 finishes in his AJGA career. The 14-year-old's best finishes came this year at the 2020 TaylorMade TP5 Junior All-Star and the 2020 Callaway Golf Junior Classic Presented by UHY where he placed second in both. He is currently ranked No. 81 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and looking for his first win.

    2020 Junior All-Star Team
    Featured in the field are 18 of the 20 players named to the 2020 Junior All-Star Team. The AJGA Junior All-Star Team recognizes the top 20 players, ages 12-15, based on the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The top nine boys and top nine girls were determined as of August 27, 2020, while the final boy and girl spots were awarded to the boy and girl with the best Rolex AJGA Ranking as of September 3, 2020. Eligibility for the team of 10 boys and 10 girls includes current-season play in at least two AJGA Junior All-Star Series tournaments, which also included the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational. AJGA Junior All-Star Series events were conducted across the country from June through September.

    Girls: Caroline Dasch of Austin, Texas, Sara Im of Duluth, Georiga, Frances Kim of Rolling Hills Estate, California, Summer Lee of Plano, Texas, Megan Meng of Pennington, New Jersey, Ava Merrill of Johns Creek, Georgia, Varsha Ramachandran of San Jose, California, Catherine Rao of Camarillo, California (not playing), Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Avery Zweig of McKinney, Texas.

    Boys: Kush Arora of Pleasanton, California, Ben DeLaRosa of Dallas, Texas, Ethan Gao of Alpharetta, Georgia, Cy Norman of Benton, Illinois, Anton Ouyang of San Jose, California, Jaivir Pande of Houston, Texas, Anawin Pikulthong of Gilbert, Arizona, Sihan Sandhu of Ashburn, Virginia, Braeden Sladek of Alexandria, Minnesota, Justin Sui of Lake Orion, Michigan.

    AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational History
    Since 2000, the AJGA Junior All-Star Invitational has seen many great names compete and come out victorious. Noteworthy champions include Luke Potter (2018), Jackson Van Paris (2017), Philip Barbaree (2012), Sam Burns (2011), Bud Cauley (2005), Xin (Cindy) Kou (2018), Michaela Morard (2017), Erica Shepherd (2016), Yeahlimi Noh (2015) and Sierra Brooks (2011).

    This year also marks the second time that the tournament will be played in Norman, Oklahoma at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The home course to the University of Oklahoma hosted the event in 2013 which saw the University of California, Berkeley Freshman, Youxin (Robin) Wang and the University of Texas Junior Emilee Hoffman secure their victories.
