After round one, Tyler Kowack of San Diego, leads after shooting 4-under-par 68. Kowack recorded five birdies and a bogey-free back-nine to have a one stroke lead. He has one top-10 finish and is seeking his first AJGA victory.
Tied for second place are Nicholas Gross of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, David Stanford of Vienna, Virginia, and Drew Van Dyke of Charlotte, North Carolina. The trio shot 3-under-par 69 and are in great position heading into the second round. Gross is coming off of back-to-back AJGA wins and is looking for his third of 2020. Stanford has made a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech and is looking for his first AJGA victory. Van Dyke is also looking for his first AJGA victory and is a Leadership Links participant.
In the Girls Division there is a three-way tie for the lead between Emma Chen of Derwood, Maryland, Jackie Feldman of Austin, Texas, and AnPhi Le of Frederick, Maryland. The trio shot even-par 72 for the round. Chen has two top-5 finishes, Feldman has one top-5 AJGA finish and has made a verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame. They are all seeking their first AJGA victory.
