After the first round of the AJGA Preview at Fords Colony (ages 12-15), Bennett Espenshade of Baltimore, Maryland, takes the lead in the Boys Division after firing five birdies for a 3-under-par 69. Espenshade is coming off his first AJGA start at the 2020 Junior Golf Hub Junior All-Star presented by Explore York.
Will Tharin of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Jiacheng Xu of (China) Winter Garden, Florida, finished the round tied for second with even-par 72. Tharin and Xu had a combined five birdies.
Olivia Cong of Germantown, Maryland, finished the first round with a three-stroke lead of 1-under-par 71. Cong carded four birdies during her first AJGA start.
Following in second is Vivian Hui of Charlottesville, Virginia, with a 2-over-par 74. This is Hui's second AJGA start following the 2020 Imperial Headwear Junior Classic. Hadley Ashton of Erie, Colorado, Lisa Herman of Stevenson Ranch, California, Faith Garcia of Suffolk, Virginia, and Kathyrn Ha of Roanoke, Virginia, are all tied for third with 3-over-par 75.
