The 2020 AJGA Thunderbird Junior All-Star takes place June 23-26 at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona. The 54-hole stroke play tournament has a 78-player field in addition to a qualifier event.

Since the beginning of their sponsorship in 2000, the Thunderbirds are in their 20th year of sponsoring an AJGA tournament. With the addition of the AJGA Thunderbird Junior All-Star, the Thunderbirds now host three levels of AJGA tournaments: Junior All-Star, Open and Invitational.

  • One junior committed to playing college golf
  • Two past AJGA Champions, Colton Cherry and Sophia Sarrazin
  • Five countries (United States, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Mexico) and 12 states represented in the field
  • Nine juniors in the field are from Arizona

Players to watch

Ben DeLaRosa of Dallas, Texas (2023)
DeLaRosa is coming off of three top-10 finishes in 2019. He is playing in his first AJGA event of 2020. DeLaRosa is No. 159 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Colton Cherry of Las Vegas, Nevada (2022)
Cherry is No. 197 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. He was a medalist at the 2019 AJGA Preview at River Ridge (Ages 12-15) and had two other top-5 finishes in 2019.

Sophia Sarrazin of Westport, Connecticut (2023)
Sarrazin is playing in her second AJGA tournament of 2020 and she is T130 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. She is coming off of three top-3 finishes in 2019.

Sophie Thai of Los Altos, California (2022)
Thai had three top-10 finishes in 2019. She is No. 235 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings heading into her junior year. In 2019, Thai finished T51 in the Girls Junior PGA Championship.
