After day one at the GreatLIFE Junior Challenge by Sanford Health, Melena Barrientos of Plano, Texas, leads the Girls Division after an opening-round even-par 70. Barrientos carded two birdies during the round and holds a one-stroke lead. She is verbally committed to Clemson and is currently No. 373 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.
Kaylee Chen of Denver, Colorado, and Berlin Long of Lehi, Utah, are tied for second at 1-over-par 71.
In the Boys Division, there is a three-way tie on top of the leaderboard in the Boys Division. Greg Seo of Carollton, Texas, shot 3-under par 67 and a bogey-free front nine to end the day at the top.
Tyson Shelley of Salt Lake City, Utah, finished the round with four birdies to shoot 3-under par 67. The junior has verbally committed to play at Brigham Young University in Fall 2021.
Alexander Iniakov of Prunedale, California, also recorded four birdies to shoot 3-under par 67 and claim a share of the lead. Iniakov is playing in his fourth AJGA event.
