Jackson Roman fires off low-round 64

After one round of play, Jackson Roman of Kensington, Connecticut, leads the Boys Division by five strokes. Roman shot an amazing 7-under-par 64 to end the day at the top of the leaderboard. He recorded six birdies on the front nine to take the early lead. This is his lowest AJGA tournament round ever.

Elias Kennon of Old Greenwich, Connecticut, shot a 2-under-par 69 to be in second. Tied for third are Jack Pepin of Plaistow, New Hampshire, and Jacob Finard of Weston, Massachusetts. They both shot 1-under-par 70 to put themselves in position heading into round two.

In the Girls Division, Tiya Chowdary of Belle Mead, New Jersey, tops the leaderboard at 1-under-par 70. Chowdary recorded a bogey-free front nine to have a two-stroke lead going into the second round. In 2019, she recieved AJGA Scholastic Honor Roll. She looks to claim her first AJGA career victory with this tournament.

Tied for second place are Gio Kim of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, Rebecca Skoler of Needham, Massachusetts, and Allison Paik of Providence, Rhode Island. The three shot 1-over-par 72 and look to move up the leaderboard in the second round.
