Nicholas Gross of Downington, Pennsylvania, and Kristoffer Kuvaas of (Norway) Houston, Texas, both shot 5-under-par 67 to take the lead in the Boys Division after the first round. Gross recorded five birdies and an eagle on the day. Kuvaas finished the round with four birdies leaving him tied with Gross for the lead.
At one stroke back, Keller Mulhern of Exton, Pennsylvania, shot 4-under-par 68 and tallied six birdies. This is Mulhern's fourth event of the year.
Treed Huang of Katy, Texas; Zachary Ong of (Singapore) Scarsdale, New York; Boyi (Barry) Zhang of (China) Lake Mary, Florida; and Michael Ostrower of New York, New York, are all tied for fourth at 3-under-par 69.
In the Girls Division, Helen Yeung of Clarksville, Maryland, is tied for the lead at 1-under-par 71. Yeung recorded two birdies on the front nine.
Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, also recorded two birdies on the front nine to give her a share of the lead with Yeung. Tolentino finished the back nine at even-par.
Claire Lu of Edison, New Jersey, finished the round shooting an even-par 72. Lu tallied three birdies on the day.
