Morris, Meng, Psuik ahead of the pack after round one

The end of the first round leaves Sam Morris of Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the top of the leaderboard with a one-stroke lead. Morris carded four birdies on the day which carried him to a three-under-par 67. This is his third AJGA event and he already has two top-10 finishes.

Tied for second are PJ Maybank of Cheboygan, Michigan, Chase Nevins of Great Falls, Virginia, Nathan Miller of Dallas, Texas, and Benjamin Newfield of Arlington, Virginia. Each of them finished the day at 2-under-par 68. Maybank has four top-10 finishes in his AJGA career. Nevins has a win at the 2020 Sean Foley Performance Junior All-Star. Miller has a top-10 finish this year and Newfield has a top-10 finish this year as well.

The Girls Division is all tied up at the end of round one. Megan Meng of Pennington, New Jersey, and Cassandra Psuik of Greenfield, Wisconsin, both shot a two-under-par 68. Meng has three career AJGA top-five finishes and won the 2020 Pennsylvania Junior Girls Championship. Psuik has an AJGA top-five finish and won the 2019 Wisconsin Junior Championship.

In solo third place is Vanessa Borovilos of Toronto, Ontario. Borovilos has two AJGA top-five finishes and won the Drive Chip and Putt at Augusta National Golf Club in 2018.
