Schuster and Nevins jump to lead after second round

Katherine Schuster leads the Girls Division by two strokes at 2-over-par while Chase Nevins leads the Boys Division at 4-under-par.

Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, jumped up the leaderboard to take the lead by two strokes in the Girls Division. Schuster had three birdies during the second round and finished with an even-par 72 to get to 2-over-par 146 for the tournament. She is eyeing her first AJGA win and her best career AJGA finish to date is fifth at the 2020 Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship. Schuster is No. 64 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and committed to Clemson University.

Taylor Kehoe of (Canada) Strathroy, Ontario Canada, is in solo second place at 4-over-par 148. Two strokes behind Kehoe is Emily Mathews of Mebane, North Carolina, at 6-over-par 150.

Chase Nevins of Great Falls, Virginia, carded a 6-under-par 66 in the second round to get to 4-under-par 140 for the tournament. Nevins recorded an eagle and five birdies to help vault him to the top of the Boys Division and take a one-shot lead into the final round. Nevins will be going for his third AJGA win after securing two wins in the 2020 season. He is No. 85 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

Michael La Sasso of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Waymon Thomas are tied for second at 3-under-par 141. Thomas carded the lowest round of the day with a bogey-free 8-under-par 64. Bryan Kim of Brookeville, Maryland, is in fourth at 2-under-par 142. Rounding out the top five at 1-over-par 145 are Chase Kyes of Birmingham, Alabama, and Daniel McBrien of Holly Springs, North Carolina.
