After a record breaking day in round one, Selena Tang of Fremont, California, still leads after 36 holes sitting at 6-under-par 138. Her second round featured a 2-over-par 74. She will carry a two shot lead entering the final round. An even-par 36 on her back nine kept Tang's round afloat on day two, despite numerous chasers.
One of those chasers is Sophie Thai of Los Altos, California. After a first round where she carded a 1-over-par 73, she followed that up with the low round of the day among all golfers with a 5-under-par 67, which included a 4-under-par 32 on her front nine. She sits at 4-under-par 140 for the tournament. Yingzhi Zhu of (China) Austin, Texas, rounds out the top three, sitting at 2-under-par 142. She shot even-par 72 during the second round.
In the Boys Division, Logan Kim of La Canada Flintridge, California, will enter the final round leading by one stroke. This coming on the heels of a 3-under-par 69 in round two, which featured six birdies to just three bogeys. Kim now sits at 6-under-par 138 for the tournament. The Class of 2024 member is seeking the first win of his AJGA career.
James Whitworth of Carlsbad, California, and Jeffrey Han of San Diego, California, are both members of the Class of 2022. They also both sit in a tie for second at 5-under-par 139. Chanhee Ryu of Pleasanton, California, and Erik Plenge of (Peru) Lima, Peru, sit in solo fourth and fifth respectively with scores of 4-under-par 140 and 2-under-par 142 for the tournament.
