Kim breaks 18-hole tournament scoring record in round one

Ford, Polin and Taylor sit tied for lead in the Boys Division

Chaemin Kim of (South Korea) Austin, Texas, shot 4-under-par 68 to hold a six-stroke lead in the Girls Division after the first round. Kim was the only junior to shoot under-par Tuesday and also set a new tournament record for lowest round, beating five juniors whom were tied at 2-under-par 70.

Sitting in second place is Ka Hei Kong of (Hong Kong) Arcadia, California, who shot 2-over-par 74. Kong birdied No. 1 and notched 14 pars in her first round. In third place is Kathryn Ha of Roanoke, Virginia, at 3-over-par 75. Ha carded four birdies in the first round.

In the Boys Division, Ryan Ford of Westfield, Indiana, Quinlan Polin of (United Kingdom) Cary, North Carolina, and Breckin Taylor of Erie, Pennsylvania, all shot 1-over-par 73 for a three-way tie for first after 18 holes. Ford and Polin both carded four birdies and Taylor carded two. All three juniors are looking for their first AJGA wins.

In a tie for fourth to round are Rocco Salvitti of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Connor Ritter of East Sparta, Ohio. Both Salvitti and Ritter shot 2-over-par 74 to sit in the top five after the first round.
