Ethan Dial, of Shreveport, Louisiana, leads the Boys Division after one round at 3-under-par 68. His round consisted of four birdies, including one on No. 18 to take the lead at the final hurdle. Dial is seeking his first AJGA win and second national junior golf win overall.
In a three-way tie for second place at 2-under-par 69 are Logan Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Treed Huang of Katy, Texas, and Tomek Pickrell of Cypress, Texas. Fifth place is shared between Daniel Zou of The Woodlands, Texas, Aiden Tiet of Garland, Texas, and Preston Cooper of Dallas, Texas, at 1-under-par 70.
The Girls Division pace has been set by a trio of Texas natives. Maye Huang, of Katy, Texas, Sayers Allen of Spring Branch, Texas, and Grace Jin of San Antonio, Texas, all shot 3-under-par 68. Huang and Jin both carded six birdies, while Allen managed four of her own. All three girls have a top-5 AJGA finish in 2021, but have yet to win their first event.
Kaylee Yuan of Joshua, Texas, sits in fourth place at 1-under-par 70, and she is followed by Lucy Smith of Prosper, Texas, in fifth place at even-par 70.
