Swanson gets out to strong start

Matthews stands above rest of the field in crowded Girls Division

In the first ever AJGA tournament round at The Bridges Golf & Country Club, Hunter Swanson of Denver, Colorado, started things off with a bang. He would go on to shoot a 6-under-par 65 for his round which included five total birdies, and an eagle on the par five No. 9.

Los Alamitos, California, native Jack Cantlay is the closest chaser to the top spot following a round of 5-under-par 66. Three consecutive birdies on hole Nos. 15, 16 and 17 vaulted him into solo second.

Ty Holbrook of Granbury, Texas, and Luke Cushman of Castle Rock, Colorado, are tied for third following day one scores of 4-under-par 67. Eoin McLaughlin of Leawood, Kansas, rounds out the top five with a 3-under-par 68.

In the Girls Division, Mallory Matthews of Hondo, Texas, sits atop the leaderboard following a 3-under-par round of 68. Matthews made eight birdies on her day. She made back-to-back birdies to close out her front nine on hole Nos. 8 and 9. The Class of 2022 member would then make three birdies in a row on hole Nos. 13, 14 and 15.

Montgomery Ferreira of Tacoma, Washington, and Jenna Madden of McKinney, Texas, are tied for second following rounds of 1-under-par 70.
