The Visit Sanford Preview, now known as the AJGA Preview at Carolina Trace, received the American Junior Golf Association’s 2020 Preview Tournament of the Year Award.

Each year, the AJGA recognizes top tournaments, committees, and individuals who produce outstanding work during the previous AJGA season in 15 categories. AJGA annual awards distinguish the effort of supporters who make each quality tournament experience possible.

"In 2020 Carolina Trace Country Club and the members were able to join in the development of Golf's Next Generation by hosting an AJGA Preview event. Wendy Bryan with Visit Sanford and tourism sponsored the event and everyone in Sanford was extremely proud to be apart. I am in my 25th year as a PGA Professional, and this award goes a long way towards the representation of all the work and professionalism everyone puts into Golf's Next Generation. On behalf of Carolina Trace's members, owners, employee partners and Visit Sanford, I thank you for allowing us to be apart of the AJGA."
Raymond Reyes, Head Golf Professional at Carolina Trace Country Club

AJGA Previews provide juniors ages 12-15 with the opportunity to play at a higher level, gain experience in the junior golf world, and showcase their talent to college coaches across the nation. These events also raise money to give back to the AJGA ACE Grant. The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant provides financial assistance to young men and women who aspire to earn a college golf scholarship through competitive junior golf. Since inception, this program has reimbursed over $5 million dollars to make the game more accessible to those junior golfers across the country.

During the unprecedented times of 2020, Carolina Trace Country Club provided exceptional support to the AJGA. The country club provided playing experiences for over 200 tournament players during a back-to-back Open/Preview event. The members at Carolina Trace kindly served as volunteers throughout the golf course, helping the event keep a steady pace of play and providing refreshments for AJGA players and parents throughout the day. Staff was onsite each day to assist with tournament tasks, creating a great environment and smooth expereience for players. Additionally, the event was promoted on North Carolina Golf Talk Show Radio.

The committee and volunteers at the 2020 event played a key role in receiving this award. Four committee positions were filled and volunteers were secured for tournament play, which greatly helped both the AJGA staff and participants. After the event, the committee provided additional sponsorship to give back to the AJGA ACE Grant.

"We greatly appreciate the staff, members of the club and local residents at Carolina Trace Country Club allowing the AJGA to host multiple events at their facility in 2020. Carolina Trace CC has been a huge supporter of junior golf highlighted by them hosting the AJGA five times since 2016. Last year’s events were a huge success thanks in large part to our tournament committee: Dan Stanley, Red Davis, Raymond Reyes, Gaith Alkadi, Wendy Bryan and Kevin Brown."
Patrick Cansfield, Director of Business Development

AJGA tournaments are annually honored in the categories of hospitality, fundraising, charitable giving, volunteers, engaged media, and social media. The year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and golf course executive are honored alongside the most game-changing overall event, best new event, and top honorees in each tournament ‘series’ (Preview, Junior All-Star, Open and Invitational). Awards are presented on-site during the tournament week.
