Starting on No. 10, Guo opened with an even-par 35 on his first nine holes, but picked up his play after making the turn, carding four birdies and no bogeys coming in. Guo's 4-under-par 31 on his second nine included a stretch of three consecutive birdies on holes No. 4, 5 and 6.
