Merrill and Wotherspoon take sole possession of lead

Ava Merrill leads the Girls Division and Rylan Wotherspoon leads the Boys Division after the second round. Both sit at 11-under-par 131.

Ava Merrill of Johns Creek, Georgia, took the solo lead in the Girls Division after a bogey-free 7-under-par 64 in the second round to break the single round scoring record at the event. Merrill's score after two rounds of 11-under-par 131 also sets a new Girls Division 36-hole scoring record for the event. She is No. 46 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings and is a two-time AJGA Champion.

Madison Hewlett of Oldsmar, Florida, is two strokes behind Merrill in second place at 9-under-par 133. Maye Huang of Katy, Texas, is in third at 6-under-par 136.

Rylan Wotherspoon of Florence, Kentucky, took control of the Boys Division lead after a second round of 4-under-par 67 to get to 11-under-par for the tournament. Wotherspoon had a bogey-free front nine and recorded just one bogey on his back nine. His 11-under-par, 36-hole total breaks the previous record of 9-under-par for the event. Wotherspoon is verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati and has one AJGA win.

Three strokes behind Wotherspoon and tied for second are Patton Samuels of Clarksville, Tennessee, Hogan Ingram of Rome, Georgia, and Treed Huang of Katy, Texas, at 8-under-par 134. Andrew McLauchlan of Neptune Beach, Florida, is in solo fifth place at 7-under-par 135.
