Vanessa Zhang of Pasadena, California, leads the way at The Amundi evian Senior Showcase (Senior Girls) with a first round 6-under-par 66. Zhang's day included seven birdies after bouncing back from an early bogey on the par 4 hole No. 3. Zhang's bogey-free back nine moved her into the solo lead. The 2023 junior is looking for her first AJGA win. Zhang's 2021 AJGA season included three top-10 finishes.
Chaewon Jong (South Korea) Alajuela Centro, Costa Rica, holds the solo second position on the leaderboard at 5-under-par 67. Jeong, a 2022 senior, had a bogey-free first round carding birdies on hole Nos. 1, 3, 5, 13 and 18. Jong is currently No. 157 in the Rolex AJGA rankings.
Rounding out the top-4 include Sara Tomaszewski of Cancun, Mexico, in solo third at 4-under-par 68, followed by Mallorie Luitwieler of Katy, Texas, in solo fourth at 2-under-par 70.
Fives ladies share fifth at 1-under-par 71; Katy Pickrell of Austin, Texas, Kirstin Angosta of Henderson, Nevada, Carolyn Fuller of Phoenix, Arizona, Ryann Flynn of Truckee, California, and Tsara Ralamboarison of Eybens, France.
