Chirravuri overtakes second-round lead

Arizona native shoots 4-under-par 68 in second round

The Woodlands, Texas - Mahanth Chirravuri of Chandler, Arizona, carded a 4-under-par 68 to finish the second round with a tournament total of 9-under-par 135. Chirravuri's second round was highlighted by five birdies, including three on a stretch from Nos. 11-13.

Chirravuri was No. 57 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings coming into the event. He has played in 15 AJGA events including seven Invitationals. His best finish came at the 2020 AJGA Longbow Golf Club Open where he was T2. His best Invitational finish came at the 2021 Polo Golf Junior classic where he advanced to the quarterfinals. The University of Southern California commit was also a Rolex Junior All-American in 2020.

The AJGA Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods is one of the longest-running events on the AJGA schedule. Originally played in 1987, the tournament settled at The Club at Carlton Woods in 2009. The event has a storied past with champions such as Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth.

Sitting three back of Chirravuri in second place are Matthew Comegys of Van Alstyne, Texas, and Eric Lee, Fullerton, California, at 6-under-par 138. Comegys shot a 2-under-par 70 and Lee fired a 5-under-par 67 in the second round to put themselves in position heading to the final round.

In a tie for fourth place are Bryan Lee of Fairfax, Virginia, and Nicholas Gross of Downingtown, Pennsylvania at 5-under-par 137. Lee fired a 3-under-par 69 while Gross shot a 1-under-par 71 in the second round.

The final round will be played on Monday, February 21 with tee times off Nos. 1 & 10 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:20 a.m.
