Centura Health to support AJGA event for second year

96 junior golfers are set to compete in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, CO – The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), City of Colorado Springs  and Centura Health  are teaming up for the second year to bring a national junior golf tournament to Colorado Springs July 25-28, 2022. The Colorado Springs Junior by Centura Health will feature 96 boys and girls (ages 12-19) competing in the 54-hole tournament at The Club at Flying Horse – Phil Smith Course. Showcasing 18 more players than last year, the event will have a 36-hole cut.

The Colorado Springs Junior by Centura Health features ten college commits and seven players ranked inside the top-300 of the Rolex AJGA Rankings. William Ma of San Deigo, California, is the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 118 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. The 2024 grad already has one AJGA victory this season at the AJGA Junior at Chicopee presented by John D. Mineck Foundation and has nine top-20 AJGA finishes.

There are 29 Colorado natives in the field, with four from Colorado Springs. Local players include Wesley Erling, Carter Surofchek, Emily Cheng, and Lauren Jaworowski. Sofia Choi of Littleton, Colorado, is the highest-ranked Coloradan in the field at No. 271 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. She’s headed to Washington University in St. Louis in the fall. Choi’s highest AJGA finish was T2 at the 2021 Colorado Springs Junior by Centura Health.

Additionally, an AJGA Qualifier for entry to the tournament will take place at Valley Hi Golf Course on Sunday, July 24. In total, there are 174 total playing opportunities between the Qualifier and Open tournament.

First-round play will begin Tuesday, July 26, with first- through final-round tee times running from 7 – 12:10 a.m. off the No. 1 tee at The Club at Flying Horse – Phil Smith Course. The awards ceremony will take place at the conclusion of final-round play on July 28.

The Club at Flying Horse is located at 1880 Weiskopf Point, Colorado Springs.
