From AJGA Parents to Lifetime Supporters

Bruce and June Taylor honored for longtime commitment to the AJGA

Jacksonville, FL - June and Bruce Taylor have been involved with the AJGA ever since their son, Ben Taylor, played in AJGA tournaments in the early 1990's. After witnessing firsthand the environment and what the AJGA stood for, the Taylor's quickly got more involved with the organization.

The Taylor's remembered that during Ben's playing years, they made friends with other junior parents and formed a tight bond with them. This resulted in them playing in the same tournaments throughout the season and furthering those relationships with the parents and Ben's playing competitors. It was then that the Taylor's saw what the AJGA did for not only their own children, but members across the country.

"The AJGA is unique. It really does a magnificent job for the young people who are really serious about golf, and I am very appreciative of that."

The couple began to be the boots on the ground for the AJGA, and Bruce quickly became the tournament chairman for the local AJGA event in Jacksonville, Florida, with his wife helping out every step of the way. With their help securing donations - product and monetary, coordinating volunteers, and being an extension of the company, the AJGA was able to host events at prestigious venues like Sawgrass Country Club, Windsor Park Golf Club, and World Golf Village.

The pair also helped find local host families for juniors and AJGA staff members, even opening their home as well, which is located No. 7 tee box of this weeks host venue, Deerwood Country Club.

After their son Ben transitioned to collegiate golf, June and Bruce passed their tournament chair duties off to another member of the Jacksonville community. Their impact was never forgotten, though.

This past spring John Brooks reached out to the Taylor's and notified them that the AJGA would like to honor their long-time service to the AJGA by naming the Junior-Am for the Mizuno / Greyson Sigg Junior Championship after them.

"We were very honored," said the Taylors. "We enjoyed being able to follow around Amilie (Lacantara, during the Junior-Am)... She couldn't have been more pleasant to everybody and has a beautiful swing."

The Bruce and June Taylor Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, held on Monday, June 6th, was a great success. Proceeds from the morning of golf went to the AJGA's Acheiving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant and the Len Mattiace Foundation. The team of Robert Davis, Tom Sawyer, Damon Olinto and AJGA junior Campbell Kennedy won the event with a group shamble score of 15-under-par.

The Taylor's impact on the AJGA is immeasurable, and the organization is thankful for their support. The AJGA was happy that we could honor them at this year's Mizuno / Greyson Sigg Junior Championship on their home course at Deerwood Country Club.
